Happy New Year!

I hope it’s not too late to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

For the last two months, I’ve fallen “asleep” and haven’t sent out any emails because of two main reasons:

  1. I’ve been beating myself up for missing my streak (pretty harshly, as you might be able to tell)
  2. I’ve kind of crumbled under family pressures

I’d admit that I’ve never been able to handle family-related pressures well, because I’ve always wanted to make my family members happy. (Can you believe I just realized that after 36 years of my life?!).

As a result, I often pander to their emotions while being unaware of it, letting their emotional whims control me to some extent. When I’m in that state, I often withdraw and hide. (Not a good state to be in).

The good news is I’m back — as indicated by writing this email :)

This brings me to a related topic…

Servers are back up

My servers went down because pm2 decided to hang on me.

I’ve since fixed it on Sunday so my sites are all live now — including the student portal. I’ve also written a post on troubleshooting and fixing this problem.

I apologize if you have been affected by this outage.

Now, one more thing.

Don’t try to make anyone happy

Piggybacking off my recent (pretty darn late) discovery, I wrote about the problems of trying to make people happy, including the inverse of the problem, and what to do instead.

Hope you enjoy this week’s newsletters.

And now it’s off to a proper close for the year.

I’m glad I got to write to you before the year ends. Thank you very much for staying with me on this newsletter.

I’m happy to announce that I am working on a new course — Unorthodox Tailwind. This course shows you how to use Tailwind and CSS in a synergistic manner. This is a great course to take if you have been wondering: How to use the best parts of Tailwind How to use the best parts of CSS How to combine the strengths of both Tailwind and CSS (While avoiding the HTML bloat that usually comes with Tailwind classes) This is also a great course to take if you’ve been yearning for a great system to...

This week I’d like to take a break from talking about code and Splendid Labz — and instead focus on some tooling and ergonomics. If you’ve been hanging out with me for some time, you would have known that I have a Moonlander keyboard. I’m pretty happy with it because it mitigated my carpal tunnel problems for a long long time. (Here’s why it works). Preventing/reducing carpal tunnel problems is important for us developers because, well, we use our hands to work. If we get carpal tunnel, how...

Hey , This is probably one of the most ironic messages I’m gonna send because I’ve just ranted about breaking changes last week. But I gotta tell you about these breaking changes in advance so you can ease into the new library as much as possible — although it’ll probably take some time before I get the documentations out. (Life is tough, but I’m working on all the various fronts I can as we speak). There are two major breaking changes coming with the upcoming version of Splendid Labz....
